What is included in Optio waterproof camera kits?

May I purchase a camera case designed for my Optio waterproof camera?

Yes, they are available through your local dealer or PENTAX shop online. The Optio W30 is currently on PENTAX shop online.  The Optio W60 will be appearing soon!

 

Where is the recording microphone located on the Optio waterproof camera?

Look for the microphone located on the top of the next to the On/Off switch button.

 

May I connect my Optio waterproof camera to a television to view images?

Yes. Connect the Optio waterproof camera with the AV cable (I-AVC7) to playback images on a television that has a Video-In (and Audio-In for sound) port. Note: Both the television and the camera should be turned off before connecting the cable.

 

Are Optio waterproof cameras equipped with a tripod mount?

Yes. The standard tripod thread mount is located on the bottom of the camera.

 

Do the internal clock and the date/time feature continue to run if the battery is removed?

Optio waterproof cameras will retain the date/time setting and the internal clock will continue to run for approximately 24 hours after the battery is removed.

Note: The retention data is based on testing an operating camera with a new, fully-charged battery for a minimum of 24 hours.

WATERPROOF INFORMATION

 

Can Optio waterproof cameras be used in the water?

Yes, they can be used to take pictures at a depth of 13 feet (4m) with the Optio W60 and 10 feet (3m) with the Optio W30 continuously for two hours.

 

* After used in saltwater, please maintain the camera as follows.

  1. Wipe saltwater from the camera and then wait ten minutes to (dry-out) maintain water-repellency of the microphone and speaker seals.
  2. Double-check that the power is off and the battery/card cover is firmly closed.
  3. Soak the camera in a bowl of fresh water for 2 -3 minutes.
  4. Wipe off the camera.

Can the camera be used in the water deeper than 13 feet (4m)?

No. Optio W60 waterproof camera should neither be operated nor carried to depths lower than 13 feet.  The Optio W30 can be submerged up to 10 feet.

 

After using the Optio W60 or W30 in the water for 2 hours, may I use it again in the water immediately?

No. Wait ten minutes to maintain the water-repellency of the microphone and speaker seals.

 

Does the camera float on water?

No. Optio waterproof cameras will sink if dropped in water, so be sure to attach the strap and slip the strap over your wrist when using the camera in or near water.

 

Can the Auto focus be adjusted in the water?

Yes. It is possible that Autofocus may be "fooled" if light levels are low in the water. When this occurs, use Manual focus (MF) or Pan focus (PF) modes.

 

May the flash be used in the water?

Yes.

 

May audio be recorded while taking a movie in the water?

Yes. (Imagine capturing the sounds of whale communication!)

 

Can the camera be used on the sand at the beach?

Yes, however please pay attention the following points.

  1. The camera seals will repel sand, however, avoid placing the camera directly on sand or dirt at the beach to avoid wear and tear and scratching to the camera body.
  2. Be sure to check that the battery/card cover is securely locked before using the camera in an environment where it is likely to get wet or dirty, such as underwater or at the beach. Water, sand or dirt inside the camera may cause failure of the camera. Wipe off any water or dirt with a dry cloth as soon as possible after using the camera.
  3. Avoid opening the battery/card cover at the beach or by salt water. Wait until the camera is completely dry before changing the battery or the SD Memory Card. Avoid changing the battery or card where the camera is likely to get wet or dirty, and make sure that your hands are dry.
  4. Avoid getting sunscreen or sun oil on the camera as it may cause discoloration of the surface. If any oil gets on the camera, wash it off immediately with warm water.
  5. The waterproof function does not apply to the camera's accessories.

Can the camera be used in the bath?

The temperature range in which the camera can be used is 14 F to 104 F (-10 C to 40 C) with the Optio W60 and 32°F to 104°F (0°C to 40°C) with the Optio W30.

 

If juice or other beverages splash onto the camera, what should I do?

The camera waterproof function may be compromised if the juice sticks on the waterproof seal contact surface. Make sure that it is turned off and the battery/card cover is closed before rinsing it under running tap water or leaving it in a bowl of fresh water for 2 or 3 minutes.

 

Does the camera require a waterproof SD card?

No. It will operate and maintain waterproof capability with a normal SD card

MEMORY CAPACITY AND IMAGE STORAGE

 

What kind of memory do Optio waterproof cameras employ?

The Optio W60 is equipped with approximately 36.4MB of built-in memory and may also use a removable Secure Digital (SD) or High Capacity Secure Digital (SDHC) memory cards.

 

The Optio W30 waterproof camera is equipped with approximately 10.5MB of built-in memory and may also use a removable Secure Digital (SD) memory cards.

 

May a picture or audio be recorded without a memory card?

Since Optio waterproof cameras have limited built-in memory, a memory card is not necessary to take limited pictures or record audio or video. Adding an SD card will allow users take additional images and longer audio clips depending on the card capacity.

 

May I copy pictures and sound files from the built-in memory to the SD memory card?

Yes. Users may copy pictures, sounds, and movies from the built-in memory to SD card and copy from the SD card to the camera's built-in memory as follows:

  1. Press the Menu button in Playback mode, the Mode Palette appears.
  2. Use the four-way controller 4-Way Controller to select (Copy image and sound). Copy Image and Sound

  3. Press OK button the Copy image and sound screen appears.
  4. Use the four-way controller 4-Way Controller to select and press the OK button.

Which SD memory cards can be used?

Manufacturers offer a variety of SD cards that may be used in your camera. While Pentax does not guarantee compatibility with any particular manufacturer or model, we have seen consistent compatibility with SD cards from Panasonic, SanDisk, and Toshiba in the following capacity: 16 / 32 / 64 / 128 / 256 / 512MB / 1GB / 2GB / 4GB / 8GB

 

How many photos may be stored on a memory card?

The following table shows the approximate* number of recordable images when using memory cards of various sizes, at different combinations of recorded pixels and quality levels.

*Since compression can vary slightly depending upon the shooting conditions and subject matter, these numbers may not be exact.

Are there any general SD memory card suggestions?

Yes. Here are some common tips.

  • SD memory cards should be formatted for Optio W10 when used the first time or after use with other devices. Note: Data such as images and voice will be deleted after formatting the SD card.
  • Never remove SD cards or turn off the power while recording images or connecting the camera to a computer via the USB cable.
  • Back-up your image/video/audio data regularly.

May I insert or remove the SD card with the camera powered on?

Never. Data may be lost, and you may damage your card.

 

Will the built-in memory be used when an external memory card is inserted?

No.

IMAGE CAPTURE AND PLAYBACK

 

How long does it take for the camera to start up?

Start-up time for Optio waterproof cameras is approximately 1.9 sec.

Start-up time is calculated from full depression of the power button until the LCD shows an image.

Conditions: no external memory card inserted, start-up screen and sound turned off, flash and display turned on.

 

What is the shutter lag time for Optio waterproof cameras?

The time lag for shutter-release is approximately 0.03sec.

This is calculated as the time from full depression of shutter release button to capturing the image, when the flash is turned off and focus lock is on.

 

What is the shot-to-shot interval, when shooting consecutive pictures?

The recording interval is approximately 1 frame per second and high speed mode is approximately 5 frames per second for seven shots at 5MP resolution.

This specification may vary depending upon the write speed of the SD-card (which can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer) and the selected image quality.

 

Is manual focus possible?

Yes. When set to manual focus mode, the focus can be adjusted by using the four-way controller.

 

Is manual exposure possible?

No.

 

When set to Auto ISO, what ISO speeds are available to the camera?

In Auto ISO mode, the camera will automatically choose from ISO 50 ~ 1600 (50 - 6400 in Digital Shake Reduction mode)

 

Are Optio waterproof cameras equipped with a noise reduction function?

Yes. The noise reduction function is automatically activated when a picture is taken at a shutter speed longer than 1 sec in Night-Scene Mode and fire works mode.

 

What are the file format, frame rate and maximum recording time for a movie?

The file format is MOV (Quick Time Motion JPEG for compression), recorded at 30 frames per second or 15 frames per second in 720p (1280x720), VGA (640x480), QVGA (320x240) resolutions. The recording time of the movie depends on the available capacity of your memory card. The larger your memory card, the longer the movie you can record.

 

Can sound be recorded with an image?

Yes, sound can be recorded after capturing the image or in the Synchronous mode the user can capture sound while taking a picture.

 

What is the histogram display?

The histogram display shows the brightness distribution of an image. The x-axis shows the brightness level of the image, and the y-axis shows the amount of pixels at that brightness level. The histogram is useful for controlling brightness distribution when using exposure compensation. A histogram also allows you to confirm the exposure of recorded images during playback.

IMAGE PLAYBACK ON A TELEVISION

 

Why is the image not clearly displayed on my television?

Please check the video output in the menu and select NTSC or PAL to adapt video output system in your country.

 

This camera is set to the NTSC format before leaving the factory. When you wish to use it in a region that uses the PAL format, first switch the video output to PAL. You cannot connect the output of this camera to a SECAM format television.

 

Why does the LCD Monitor became black when the camera is connected to the television?

The LCD monitor will be off while connecting the camera to a television to save battery power.

BATTERY AND POWER SOURCE INFORMATION

 

What type of batteries do Optio waterproof cameras use?

The Optio W60 waterproof camera kit includes a rechargeable Lithium-ion battery (D-LI78) and a charge cradle.  The Optio W30 waterproof camera kit includes a rechargeable Lithium-ion battery (D-LI63) and charger.

Optio waterproof camera kits include a rechargeable Lithium-ion battery (D-LI8) and charge stand.

 

Can the charger or AC adaptor be used in foreign countries?

The battery charging stand supplied with the camera is designed to switch automatically to the voltage (100-240V) and frequency (50Hz,60Hz) of the electricity supply in the country or region where used. However, electrical socket shapes differ depending on the country or region. Before traveling abroad, you are advised to check the socket shape in your destination

What about Operating Time of battery? (When the D-LI8 battery is fully charged)

 

Optio W60 (D-LI78) - Number of recordable images: Approx. 205 (with the LCD monitor on and the flash used for 50% of shots); Playback time: Approx. 200 min / Movie recording time: Approx. 75 min / Sound recording time: Approx. 240 min.

 

Optio W30 (D-LI63) - Number of recordable images: Approx. 210 (with the LCD monitor on and the flash used for 50% of shots); Playback time: Approx. 240 min.

 

Note: The description above is based on Pentax measuring conditions and may vary depending on factors such as capture mode and shooting conditions. The age of the battery can also affect these statistics.

 

How long does it take a time for full charge of battery?

The time required for full charge is about 100 minutes.

 

Is an optional AC adapter available?

Yes. The AC adapter kit (K-AC78U) is available as an optional accessory for the Optio W60.  The AC adapter kit (K-AC63U) is available as an optional accessory for the Optio W30. We do not recommend the use of 3rd party AC adapters.

 

Can I charge the battery in the camera?

No.

 

Can I charge a battery in the camera by using the AC adaptor?

No.

PC AND SOFTWARE CONNECTIVITY

 

What type of computer do I need with Optio waterproof cameras?

 

Please note the following system requirements:

 

    Windows: Windows 2000/Me/XP/Vista, USB port.

    Macintosh: MacOS-X 10.1.2 to 10.5, USB port.

 

 

Do Optio waterproof cameras support the USB mass storage class standard?

Optio waterproof cameras are compatible with USB Mass Storage Class standard.

 

How will the computer recognize the camera?

Optio waterproof cameras support the USB mass storage class standard. When connecting the camera to the computer via USB port, the computer will recognize the camera automatically as a removable disk drive.

 

What if the computer does not recognize the camera when connecting the camera to the computer via the USB port?

Please check the following points:

  1. Is the USB connection mode set on [PC]?
    * Select USB connection screen in the Menu mode, select [PC] and then press OK button.
  2. Is the camera connecting to the computer properly?
  3. If the camera connecting to computer via USB hub, please connect the camera directly to the computer.
  4. If you connect the camera to the computer (Only Windows 98/98SE) without install the USB driver or if you stop the USB driver installation before all process completed, also if the USB driver installation could not be completed, check the device manager of your computer. If the driver displayed with [ ? ] or [ ! ], delete it and turn the power of the computer off and then re-install the USB driver again.

Is the USB cable exclusive to this camera?

Yes, The USB cable (I-USB17) provided with Optio waterproof cameras for exclusive use.

 

What can I do if I have a Windows 95 or Windows NT machine?

Windows95 and NT do not support USB. To download your pictures, you will either need to upgrade your operating system, or obtain a non-USB Secure Digital card reader to read your memory card.

 

How can I disconnect camera from the computer?

 

Windows 2000/ME/XP

Double-click hot plug icon Hot Plug Icon on the taskbar at the lower right of a desktop, and then follow "safe removal of hardware." "PENTAX USB DISK Device"

 

Windows98/98SE

There is no hot plug icon, so turn the Main SW OFF and then disconnect USB cable

 

Mac OS 9.2

Drag (Name un-setting up) icon into the garbage can, and then turn the Main SW OFF and disconnect USB cable.

 

Mac OS X 10.1/10.2/10.3

Drag (NO_NAME) icon into the garbage can, and then turn the Main SW OFF and disconnect USB cable.

 

 

What should I do when I get the error massage "CarbonLib-xxxxx- ..." while installing the provided software to Macintosh?

If you see this error message, you should download the latest version of the CarbonLib files from Apple Computer, Inc: http://www.apple.com/ and install them on your computer. Then, you can install the bundled software for your camera.

 

May I playback recorded audio and voice memos on the computer?

Yes. You can playback recorded audio and voice memos on the computer with using ACDSee for Pentax.

 

Is there an operating manual for ACDSee for PENTAX?

For basic information, refer to the user's manual provided in the kit.

IMAGE PRINTING INFORMATION

 

Can Optio waterproof cameras print images direct from the printer?

Yes, by connecting the camera to a printer that supports PictBridge by using the USB cable supplied, you can print images directly from the camera without using a PC. You must select [PictBridge] for USB connection in the Menu. For more information, please refer to the operating manual of the printer

 

I would like to print the date on my images. Can I do this?

Yes, simply place a checkmark alongside "Date" in the print service (DPOF) settings, and taking the DPOF-set memory card to a print service that supports DPOF. Depending upon the laboratory print service, it may not always be possible to makes prints according to your specifications. For details, please check with the print service shop.

 

You can also insert the date at bottom right of the screen by using the software ACDSee for PENTAX 2.0 provided. In this case, before outputting a print, click the "Caption" tab, and place a check mark alongside "Print image acquisition date in corner of image".

 

Can Optio waterproof cameras print the date on my image when connecting the camera to printer directly?

Yes, if the printer supports PictBridge.

 

Can the paper size be selected by camera when the PictBridge is connecting

The size of paper can be selected from 12 sizes if all the sizes exist in the printer.

 

Why does the image not print when connecting the camera to a printer that supports PictBridge via USB cable?

Adjust the USB connection mode to [PictBridge] in the Menu.

WARRANTY INFORMATION

 

I would like to take my Optio waterproof camera overseas with me and use it. Is this possible?

The warranty card that comes with the camera is valid only in the country where you purchased the product. If you intend to use your camera overseas for an extended period, we recommend that you change over your warranty to a Pentax international warranty, which enables your camera to be covered overseas as well.
